Rangers Miller Suspended Three Games for Spitting on Doughty

This is in line with the suspension handed to Garnet Hathaway in 2019 for a similar incident.

Sunday's game between the Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers had one of the more unique match penalty calls you'll see.

After some confusion about what was happening, the refs announced the Miller was assessed a five-minute match penalty for spitting on a player.

The TV crews were then able to find the clip and it was very clear what happened.

After a hearing on Monday it was announced Tuesday morning that Miller would be suspended three games for unsportsmanlike conduct.

This is in line with the suspension handed to Garnet Hathaway in 2019 for a similar incident.

Miller addressed the situation postgame. He released a statement on Twitter about it being accidental and said he reached out and apologized to Doughty in person.

Without any history of dirty play or anything approaching what happened Sunday. There's no reasons to not believe what Miller said.

Players spit on the ice and it's entirely possible he didn't mean for it to hit Doughty.

But that doesn't change the fact that a three-game suspension is fair.

It's just something that can't happen and there's no excuse.

Intentional or not, Miller earned three games in the press box.

Doughty hasn't spoken about his conversation with Miller after the game, but based on Miller's statement it seemed to have been well received by Doughty.

It's something I'm sure both players will want to move on from, but might earn Miller a few chirps the next time these two teams meet.
