Kings Blues Postgame

In the first game since the trade deadline, the Los Angeles Kings best the St. Louis Blues 4-2 giving them three straight wins.

The Kings came out of the gates flying. 

They won the first few shifts and were rewarded 3:00 minutes into the game. 

Rasmus Kupari forced a turnover along the boards and moved the puck up to Matt Roy at the point. Roy's shot was then tipped in by Carl Grundstrom in front. His first goal since returning from injury. 

The Kings continued to carry play at five-on-five, but couldn't stay out of the box. 

First Blake Lizotte took a tripping penalty just over 10 minutes into the period. Then, four minutes later, Grundstrom went off for the same offence. 

The Kings killed both penalties, but lost a bit of control in the process. 

The Blues were able to tie the game with just under two minutes remaining. 

After Joonas Korpisalo stopped a Pavel Buchnevich shot, Anze Kopitar missed a clearing attempt that Robert Thomas pounced on. 

Thomas put the puck off the iron and off Korpisalo's back.

In his first period in net for the Kings. Korpisalo stopped 10 of 11 shots with -0.15 goals saved above expected. 

He made a few good saves on the penalty kill and couldn't do much with Thomas' goal. A solid debut 20 minutes.

Moving into the second period, the Kings started to get back into a groove.

After the first few minutes they began carrying play again and looked like the better team.

They were able to take the lead just under 13 minutes in.

Quinton Byfield lobbed a pass over the defense that Adrian Kempe raced on to. 

Kempe then fought off Tyler Tucker and beat Jordan Binnington over the shoulder short side. 

The Kings continued to control play throughout the period but couldn't grab another goal.

Korpsialo built on a solid first period and saved all seven shots he faced. 

He didn't see a high volume of shots but had to fight off a few good chances.

Through two periods he's made 17 saves on 18 shots and is posting a 0.42 goals saved above expected.

The Kings had all the momentum heading into the third. And kept it moving in the third period.

The Kings were the better team and got a power play with just under 10 minutes remaining. 

The Blues flipped the script on the Kings and grabbed a shorthanded goal though.

He intercepted Sean Durzi's pass at the point and buried on the breakaway to tie the game.

The Kings jumped back in front late in the game with a power-play goal though.

Gabe Vilardi a goal in his third straight game. He picked the puck up in front, faked to his forehand and brought it back to the backhand for a highlight reel goal. 

Kevin Fiala added the empty netter late to seal the win.

Korpisalo grabbed his first win as a King. Stopping 24 of 26 shots with -0.06 goals saved above expected. It was a solid performance from Korpisalo and one that will give the Kings a chance to win every time.
